How To

Here we provide instructions on how to perform Web site tasks related to Transit schedules and maps.

Read Schedules in General

The following notes apply to all the different types of schedules on our
website (timetables, stop schedules and trip schedules).

  • All times on the schedules are expressed in 24-hour format. Any time 12:00 or earlier is equivalent
to an AM time in the traditional 12-hour format. Any time 13:00 or later can be converted to 12-hour
format by subtracting 12 hours and adding “PM.”
  • Easy Access buses are assigned to the same route and trip each day.
This is reflected in all of our online schedules. The Easy Access symbol
    ( )
on a schedule indicates that the bus servicing the trip you are viewing will be an
Easy Access bus. Where this icon appears will depend on the type of schedule you are viewing.
    • If you are viewing a timetable, the icon will appear to the left of a timetable row, since a
single bus will provide service for that entire row.
    • If you are viewing a stop schedule, the icon will appear to the left of each entry that is
serviced by an Easy Access bus.
    • If you are viewing a trip schedule, the icon will appear only once at the top left for any
trip that is serviced by an Easy Access bus.
  • When viewing a realtime (Today) schedule, you may see the Easy Access Unavailable symbol
    ( ).
This symbol indicates that although Easy Access service is regularly scheduled for the trip
you are viewing, no Easy Access bus was available, and a regular bus has been substituted for
    that trip.
  • Realtime (Today) schedules can reflect irregularities in service. If a bus is delayed, the
time shown on a schedule will be in bold italic red type, like so:
    12:34.
If the bus has been cancelled, the time will be
shown with a line through it, like so:
    -12:34-.
The legend on the left side of the schedule will indicate the meaning of
these two different typefaces, if a delay or cancellation is present.

View a Timetable

Timetables are essentially the same as our printed schedules. They show the scheduled arrival times of one or more routes along a path of several key timing points. In most cases the timetables correspond to individual routes, but in some cases they are parts of routes (such as the 16 Osborne), or include more than one route (such as the 11/21/22).

To access timetables from the Winnipeg Transit home page, click the “Schedules and Maps”
button. You will then be taken to the timetable selection page. Select “Timetables”
for your type, and then choose between today’s timetable or one of the service types (Weekday, Saturday or Sunday) by clicking the appropriate “GO!”
button.

You will then be taken to a table of Winnipeg Transit routes. Simply click the name or route number of your desired route, and you will be taken to a page with links to all of the timetables associated with that route.

You will see a “Timetable List”
showing a list of these timetables. Select your timetable from the list and click the “View Timetable”
button.

You’re done! The timetable will be in the bottom right frame of the window, and any associated legend or notes will be in the left frame. If you need to refer to the map while viewing the timetable, click the “Route Map”
link, and the route map will appear in a separate window.

View a Stop Schedule

Stop schedules are essentially the same as our Telebus system. They show the estimated arrival times of one or more routes passing by a single stop.

To access stop schedules from the Winnipeg Transit home page, click the “Schedules and Maps”
button. You will then be taken to the timetable selection page. Select “Stop Schedules”
for your type, and then choose between today’s timetable or one of the service types (Weekday, Saturday or Sunday) by clicking the appropriate “GO!”
button.

You will then be taken to the stop selection page. The first way to look up a stop is to do what you would do in the Telebus Directory in the MTS Yellow Pages. First, in the left-hand frame, which has a list of all the streets on which Winnipeg Transit buses travel, find the street that your stop is on (in the case of intersections, choose the street that the bus is actually travelling on when it stops). The streets are organized alphabetically and you can use the index bookmarks above the list to quickly jump to a letter heading.

Once you’ve located your street, select the direction of travel. This will be expressed as as one or more of NB (Northbound), SB (Southbound), WB (Westbound), or EB (Eastbound) beside the name of the street. Click on your desired direction, and the right frame will display a list of all the cross-streets by which stops are referenced. Your stop number will be displayed across from the name of the cross-street. Click on the stop number to go to the stop schedule for that stop.

If you know your stop number (the number printed on the bus stop signpost, which is the same number used in Telebus), you can simply type the stop number into the box marked “Enter your stop number here:”
at the top right corner of the screen. Click the “GO!”
button in the top right corner and you’ll be taken to the stop schedule for that stop.

If your stop doesn’t have a lot of routes passing by (most stops are like this) you’re done! The timetable will be in the bottom right frame of the window, and any associated notes will be in the left frame. If the timetable is large, there will be links in the left frame to skip ahead to certain times in the schedule.

Some stops, especially major ones downtown, have too many buses passing by to put them all on one schedule. In these cases, the schedules are grouped into Service Regions
, and you will be given the opportunity to select the grouping of your choice.

View a Trip

A trip shows the timing of a bus along the route it is traveling.
It will show you a list of all the stops a bus on that route will service, with the scheduled
time for each stop.

A trip can be useful in telling you the arrival of a bus at a particular stop, especially
for those stops that are not route timing points. It can also be helpful in planning a
route that involves one or more transfers, since each stop description on the trip is a
link to a stop schedule.

You will see the trip symbol () on
both timetables and stop schedules. On a timetable, the symbol will be to the left of each
row, and clicking it will open a new window with the entire trip represented by that row
of the timetable (each row in a timetable generally corresponds to a trip). On a stop
schedule, there will be a symbol beside each entry, and clicking it will open a new
window with the corresponding trip.

A trip is represented by two vertical lines. Together, they represent the trip made
by a bus following a particular route. The trip starts at the top of the page, and ends
at the bottom. Thus, even though the line is always going from top to bottom, the bus
itself could be going in any direction; the line simply represents progress along the trip.
The line to the left of the trip display window contains the names of streets, along
with the direction of travel. The street name in this line at a given point is the
street along which the bus is traveling at that point.

The line in the middle of the trip display window shows the stops that the bus observes,
and their positions relative to nearby cross-streets.

- a stop

- a stop that is a timing point.

To the right of each stop will be the scheduled time at that stop on the trip
that you are viewing. If you position your mouse pointer over a stop, you will see the
stop number. Clicking on the stop will open up a new window with the stop schedule
for that stop.

A bus’s run doesn’t always begin where a route does, especially on routes
that are loops. If the same bus continues beyond the start / end points of a route,
you can follow the bus to the next or previous trip. In such cases, you will see the
following symbols, which you can click to go to the next or previous trip:

Where this bus came from

Continue on this bus

The left frame of the trip display window will contain the route, and links
to allow you to quickly jump ahead to the timing points for that route.

View a Map

You can view the map for any of our routes. These maps are the same as those included with the printed schedules. Maps are associated with timetables. In most cases the timetables correspond to individual routes, but in some cases they are parts of routes (such as the 16 Osborne), or include more than one route.

To access maps from the Winnipeg Transit home page, click the “Schedules and Maps”

Select your timetable from the list and click the “Show This Map”
button. The map will appear in a new window.

Print a Timetable or Stop Schedule

Since it’s difficult to print information from a webpage which uses frames, we’ve provided special printable versions of each schedule, both timetables and stop schedules.

Please consult above to find out how to view a timetable or view a stop schedule. When viewing any schedule, the frame at the left of your window will have links, one of which will be “Printable Version”. Click this link to bring up the printable schedule, which puts all information into a single frame.

To print, try pressing the “Print”
button. Depending on your browser, this may not work. If it doesn’t work, click once anywhere in the window, then use your browser’s print command in the file menu.

Find Your Telebus Stop Number

Looking up your stop number on winnipegtransit.com is done in much the same way as you would look up your stop number in the MTS Yellow Pages. To access the stop lookup feature, click the “Telebus”
button on the main homepage. There you will find a link that will take you to the stop lookup page, which works in much the same way as the stop lookup for the Stop Schedules feature.

This will be expressed as one or more of NB (Northbound), SB (Southbound), WB (Westbound), or EB (Eastbound) beside the name of the street. Click on your desired direction, and the right frame will display a list of all the cross-streets by which stops are referenced. Your stop number will be displayed across from the name of the cross-street. You can sort the list in the order that the streets appear along the route of the bus, or you can sort it alphabetically.
