Southwest Rapid Transit Corridor – Stage 1 Project
This Stage 1 project includes the construction of the following infrastructure:
- A Transitway between Queen Elizabeth Way & Stradbrook and Pembina & Jubilee
- New Rapid Transit Stations at Harkness, Osborne, and in the Fort Rouge Yards
- New Active Transportation Pathways
When completed, a network of transit routes will use this new infrastructure and existing transit priority measures (such as the Graham Transit Mall and Main Street diamond lanes) to provide fast reliable transit service between the downtown and the southwest part of the city (including the University of Manitoba, and residential, commercial, and industrial areas).
When approvals and funding are in place, Stage 2 of the Southwest Rapid Transit Corridor will extend the Transitway and Active Transportation Pathway south from Pembina & Jubilee to Bison Drive near Pembina Highway.
Other corridors will be added to the Rapid Transit network over time. The location and timing of these will be considered during the update of the City’s official plan, OurWinnipeg, which is currently underway.
